Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976, and is one of the world’s leaders in addressing poverty housing. Habitat is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian ministry that welcomes and builds with people regardless of race or religion. With more than 1,500 local affiliates in the United States and more than 70 national organizations across the globe, Habitat has helped build or repair more than 800,000 houses. More than 4 million people worldwide have been served by Habitat for Humanity, but the battle against poverty housing continues. Today there are almost 2 billion people who live in slum housing, and a staggering 100 million plus who are homeless. Habitat for Humanity strives to solve these issues by providing shelter and housing assistance for families who have been left homeless by natural disasters, and war and civil unrest.  Furthermore, Habitat aims to build sustainable, energy-efficient homes. Donations are vital to maintain the services provided by Habitat for Humanity, furthermore the success of Habitat would not be possible without the help of more than 1 million volunteers each year. If you would like more information on the organization, or how you can further your impact in the country and even the world, visit Habitat for Humanity's website at www.habitat.org (habitat.org 2014).
